In light of the recent Farmers’ Protests at the borders of Delhi, a Punjab family requested their friends and relatives to donate cash for the relief of the farmers instead of giving ‘shagun’ to the newlywed couple.
A donation box was placed inside the venue and the emcee of the event asked people to make generous donations.

In the video, a man can be heard making an announcement. “A humble request from the families of the newlyweds and the couple to all the guests, friends and family that are present here. The family will not be accepting any shagan. There is a donation box installed here, and all your generous donations will be used to help the farmers present at Delhi’s borders. The money will be used to provide for the langar, warm clothes and blankets, and whatever help they may need. We salute the family and everyone who chooses to donate to the cause.”
The incident took place in Muktsar, Punjab, and is winning hearts on the internet.
The farmers in India are protesting against the three new farm laws that they believe will result in a considerable drop in their incomes, and are alleging them to be anti-farmers and in favour of big corporations. The government, however, believes that the new laws will provide the farmers with more options to sell their produce.
Farmers in huge numbers from all over the country have travelled to the capital city to protest the farm laws, and are currently sitting in a peaceful protest at the borders of Delhi.

Our farmers are India’s Food Soldiers. Their fears need to be allayed. Their hopes need to be met. As a thriving democracy, we must ensure that this crises is resolved sooner than later. https://t.co/PDOD0AIeFv
