LONDON: The Sikh Federation (UK) has organised a three-hour-long virtual Vaisakhi event on Saturday for members of the Sikh community in the UK and around the world.
“There will be a one-minute silence at the start of the event to not only mark the death of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, but also to pay respect to those killed and injured in the Indianapolis shooting in the US,” Harnek Singh, national press secretary of the Sikh Federation (UK), said in a press release.
The release further added, “Four Sikhs, three women and one man, are now known to have been tragically shot dead with others injured. Those observing the national one-minute silence will not only remember the Duke of Edinburgh, but also those sadly lost and injured in Indianapolis.”
The four members of the Sikh community — Amarjeet Johal (66), Jaswinder Kaur (64), Jaswinder Singh (68), Amarjit Skhon (48) — were among the eight people who were killed in a mass shooting at the FedEx facility based in Indianapolis on Thursday. The 19-year-old gunman, Brandon Scott Hole, allegedly died by suicide after the shooting.
