During a press meet a few years ago, a journalist tried to compare her career success with that of Priyanka Chopra’s and Aishwarya Rai’s; however, she praised her fellow actresses for their achievements. While he continued to prod her, asking her to comment on the ‘two women who were crowned Miss Universe after her’ (referring to Priyanka and Aishwarya), she gently corrected him and said, “Ji, mere baad Lara Dutta bani hai, aur uske baad, unfortunately, humein koi Miss Universe mili nahi ab tak. Magar milegi, ab milegi, kyunki humara waqt aa gaya hai (After me, Lara Dutta won Miss Universe, and unfortunately, we have not had a Miss Universe since then. But we will get one now because our time has come).
As we witnessed the glorious win of Harnaaz on the dignified platform, we reminisce the passion with which Sushmita assured us we would soon have a winner succeeding Lara Dutta.
Sharing her own experiencing while representing our country, she said, “To wear India on your chest, to represent your country, it’s a feeling I have known. And when I see someone else do it, I start crying. It’s just an emotional thing for me.”
