MUMBAI: Maharashtra chief secretary Sitaram Kunte wrote to union cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba demanding to enhance liquid oxygen allocation to Maharashtra at least by 200 MT as 16 districts in the state saw continuous growth in Covid cases. Kunte in his letter pointed out that currently the state has 6,63,758 active cases of which 78,884 are on medical oxygen including 24,787 in ICU. Considering this situation, the present allocation of the State be enhanced by at least 200 MT, stated Kunte.
He also mentioned in his letter that Maharashtra continues to face onslaught of second wave of Covid Pandemic, moreover, 16 Districts such as Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Nandurbar, Beed, Parbhani, Hingoli, Amravati, Buldhana, Wardha, Gadchiroli Chandrapur are showing continuous growth in Covid cases and need adequate medical oxygen.
Maharashtra CS further stated, “I assure you that we are taking an oxygen audit in every district to contain demand in every possible manner. However considering this situation of rising medical oxygen demand I request you that present allocation of the State be enhanced by at least 200 MT.”
Kunte urged Union government that the allocation should be enhanced at locations convenient for transportation to the state else it would be only on paper. While suggesting locations Kunte further made a request to enhance oxygen from Jamnagar, Gujarat from current 125 MT/Day to 225 MT/Day. “Similarly, allocation from Bhilai may be increased to 230 MT from current 130 MT. These geographically close locations will reduce turnaround time of oxygen tankers, which are limited in number. This will also enhance our daily lifting and better demand management,” stated Maharashtra CS.
“It is also learnt that Government of India is getting ISO Tankers from Singapore, Dubai and other locations abroad, besides oil companies to facilitate transportation of liquid medical oxygen. I request you to allocate at least 10 LMO tankers to Maharashtra,” he added.
