The Education Ministry says it does not have the capacity to reimburse the money spent by the teachers for mobile data in order to conduct online classes.

 

Ministry Secretary Prof. Kapila Perera said a huge sum of money is spent on the data used by the teachers to conduct online classes and therefore, the ministry does not have the capacity to reimburse such expenses.

 

Instead, he suggested that the ministry has given an opportunity for the sudents to use the “ethaksalwa” and “LMS lessons” free of charge.

 

He urged all students to use “ethaksalawa” which is free of charge, because everyone has to pay for using Zoom, whatsapp and Microsoft Team.

HIs comments comes amid teachers’ trade unions are demanding the government to either reimburse the money spent by teachers on online classes or give them Internet facilities free of charge.
