DATA STORY: India reports 3,417 Covid deaths in a day, 368,147 cases added to tally

India on Monday reported a net increase of 63,998 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 3,413,642. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at 18.24 per cent (one in 5). The country is second among the most affected countries by active cases. On Monday, it added 368,147 cases to take its total caseload to 19,925,604. And, with 3,417 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 218,959, or 1.10 per cent of total confirmed infections.

With 1,210,347 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on Sunday, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 157,198,207. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 16,293,003 – or 81.77 per cent of total caseload – with 300,732 new cured cases being reported on Monday.

  With a daily increase of 368,147 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 19,557,457 on Sunday to 19,557,457 – an increase of 1.9%. Death toll has reached 218,959, with 3,417 fatalities. Now the second-most-affected country by active cases, total cases and recovery, and fourth by death, India has added 2,612,448 cases in the past 7 days.

  India now accounts for 18.22% of all active cases globally (one in every 5 active cases), and 6.70% of all deaths (one in every 16 deaths).

  India has so far administered 157,198,207 vaccine doses. That is 788.93 per cent of its total caseload, and 11.29 per cent of its population.

  Among Indian states, the top 5 in terms of number of vaccine shots administered are Maharashtra (20928660), Rajasthan (17776306), Uttar Pradesh (17212739), Gujarat (16412183), and West Bengal (15096696).

  Among states with more than 10 million population, the top 5 in number of vaccine shots per one million population are Kerala (278316), Gujarat (256953), Chhattisgarh (237086), Uttarakhand (235811), and Delhi (230141).

  The count of active cases across India on Sunday saw a net increase of 63998, compared with 80934 on Sunday. States that have seen the biggest daily net increase in active cases are Karnataka (16368), Kerala (15614), Andhra Pradesh (12426), Rajasthan (6877), and Maharashtra (4622).
• 
  With 300732 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate stands at 81.77%, while fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.10%.

  The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (2.42%), Sikkim (1.77%), and Himachal Pradesh (1.50%). The rate in as many as 15 is higher than the national average.

  India’s new daily closed cases stand at 304,149 — 3,417 deaths and 300732 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.12%.

  India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 2.1%.
• 
  India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 37.2 days, and for deaths at 44.1 days.

  Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Maharashtra (56647), Karnataka (37733), Kerala (31959), Uttar Pradesh (30857), and Andhra Pradesh (23920).

  Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Rajasthan (69.44%), Uttarakhand (70.56%), Karnataka (72.69%), Gujarat (74.05%), and Jharkhand (74.86%).

  India on Sunday conducted 1,504,698 coronavirus tests to take the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 291,647,037. The test positivity rate recorded was 24.5%.

  Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases – are Maharashtra (17.08%), Goa (14.38%), Dadra & Nagar Haveli-Daman & Diu (10.87%), Chandigarh (10.74%), and Chhattisgarh (10.35%).

  Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Goa (42.34%), Nagaland (39.93%), West Bengal (31.61%), Sikkim (28.79%), and Kerala (28.37%).
• 
  Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (924784), J&K (540091), Kerala (449829), Karnataka (383841), and Uttarakhand (341437).
• 
  The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (4722401), Kerala (1638778), Karnataka (1601865), Uttar Pradesh (1313361), and Tamil Nadu (1207112).
• 
  Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 56,647 new cases to take its tally to 4722401. The state has added 627,561 cases in the past 10 days.
• 
  Kerala, the second-most-affected state by total tally, has added 31,959 cases to take its tally to 1638778.
• 
  Karnataka, the third-most-affected state, has reported 37,733 cases to take its tally to 1601865.
• 
  Uttar Pradesh has added 30,857 cases to take its tally to 1313361.
• 
  Tamil Nadu has added 20,768 cases to take its tally to 1207112.
• 
  Delhi has added 20,394 cases to take its tally to 1194946.
• 
  Andhra Pradesh has seen its tally going up by 23,920 to 1145022.
