Queensland Police have issued close to $15,000 in fines to a COVID-19 positive man and flight attendant who crossed the border from NSW illegally.
Deputy Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said he was disappointed in their actions and warned everyone to continue abiding by the current border rules in place.
“We’ve taken action in relation to the investigation into the people that have travelled from Ballina – a flight attendant and her associate,” Deputy Police Commissioner Gollschewski said.
“(They) showed no regard for our community, so we took enforcement action on the flight attendant who has been fined $4,135 for assisting the man to inappropriately come up across the border without a pass,” Deputy Commissioner Gollschewski said.
“He has been fined for not having the pass, also for inappropriately using someone else’s QR code to check in, which is an offence, and finally, not wearing a mask when COVID-positive.”
Deputy Commissioner Gollschewski said the man allegedly refused to cooperate with police, so he has been issued a total of $9,648 in fines.
