NEW DELHI: Meet the mid-life facelift of the fourth-generation BMW 6 Series. This Gran Turismo from BMW is a distant rival of E-Class, which turns out to be the Mercedes best-seller.
The GT was conceived with a slightly different school of thought. The Gran Turismo or grand tourer is meant to be a capable and comfortable mile-munching machine — a prospect still bleak in our road conditions. Moreover, once a hot-selling proposition in global markets, the BMW is gradually replacing the 6 Series with the overarching demand for SUVs.

The petrol variant starts under Rs 66 lakh and diesel under Rs 69 lakh (ex-showroom). BMW India looks to attract prospective 5 Series buyers, with a distinctive taste and unwilling to stretch to opulent 7 Series.
The 2021 facelift brings in a host of new colours to choose from. Design cues are largely identical to the pre-facelift.
The trapezoidal exhaust tips are standard and the only noticeable change at the back. Look for attention to detail, the frameless doors and active spoiler charmingly lit up the shimmering profile. Upfront, the bumper is re-profiled to accommodate the widened grille. Also, customers needn’t extra for the LED laser lights, which are now part of the fitment.

The 6 GT continues to come in two diesel and one petrol engine choice. The only retuning is in the form of delivering twin-scroll turbochargers to diesel, however, they do not impact the output figures. The 630i M Sport, we drove, is quick, engaging and exciting to drive, and the drive is well balanced due to twin-axle air suspensions. The ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic gearbox carries out the transmission duties.

The cabin is luxurious, well-contoured, and rear seats come with a reclining facility. In a true sense, the 6 GT pampers the gentleman in you. Dedicated tablets for the rear passengers will keep you hooked or the view through the gigantic panoramic sunroof otherwise.

Revisions to the facelift model are in the form of a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen, which sits atop the flush dashboard. Worry less as BMW has finally introduced Android Auto compatibility to the infotainment. On the expected line, the 6 GT continues to charm your drive with 4-zone climate control, 360-degree camera and wireless charging. The only other noticeable change is in the form of reversing assistant feature, which relieves the driver of reversing duties up to 50 metres.
